Welcome to our webinars on Swedish language and culture for parents!

During spring 2022, Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan will offer online lectures on specific topics and language skills that you need as an international parent in Sweden. Learning a new language and being a parent in a country that isn't your own can be very tough and challenging. You may not have time to go to SFI, you may not even have time to leave your house. Our webinars focus on everyday life in Sweden and how to make friends, navigate the world of baby food, diapers, pre-school and kids clothing in Swedish.

Each webinar is a seperate event, that means you can sign up for those topics that suit your needs. You are welcome to have your kids around and we will focus on getting to know each other, learning new vocabulary, sing songs and reflect on our parenting experience in Sweden.

Today's topic "The autonomous child: the Swedish view on children " will focus on the following:

The role of social authorities in Sweden
- what is orosanmälan
- why does it exist?
- why you shouldn’t worry

Why is the school not bringing up my child?
- The Swedish view on school

Swedish culture and bringing up children
- why punishment is unusual
- financial autonomy
- capabilities, sports, crafts, independence

Dealing with culture shock in bi-cultural families

If you like the webinars and would like to go a more structured course where you can meet other parents, you can sign up for our free "Swedish for parents" course.

Who will you meet?
Sofi Tegsveden Deveaux, an experienced language teacher and cultural coach who has taught Swedish as a second language to adults since 2008. As the co-founder of independent publishing house LYS, making books about Swedish language and culture, she has a strong interest for local cultural expertise and global experiences. Sofi is the co-author of several textbooks in professional Swedish and she is a popular keynote speaker and workshop facilitator. She lives with her French husband and her two children in Stockholm.
