Travel Sketchbook & Gouache

Information

In this course, we will learn how to paint simple landscapes using gouache. We will begin by learning how to schematically simplify a landscape, then move on to observing different values of light and dark, and finally explore color theory and the technical use of gouache. We will learn how to represent basic landscape elements such as skies, clouds, sunsets, trees, water, and houses. With this, we will be able to create sketches of common landscapes.
The course is held in English.

Who is it for?

This course is for those who want to get started in the world of gouache. It is also for those who already work with watercolor or want to learn water-based techniques. This course is suitable both for beginners and for those with some knowledge of drawing and color.

Goal

The goal of this course is to be able to use the gouache technique to create travel sketchbooks and make quick sketches in order to capture a visual journal.

Material

You will get a list before the course starts but you need:
1. Toned tan kraft paper. Seketch pad
2. Gouache. (Lemon Yellow, Titanium Gold Ochre, Alizarin Karmesin, Ultramarin blue, Ivory black, Burt sienna, Burnt Umber, Titanium White, Zinc White, Olive green).
3. Spray bottle.
4. Water cups
5. Clip
6. Paper towels
7. Eraser
8. White posca
9. Pencil (HB)
10. Brushes. Flat synthetic brush. Round synthetic brush
11. (optional) fine technical pen or fountain pen)
12. *A ceramic palette (or plastic).

The course leader

My name is Adrian, and I studied Fine Arts at the Universities of Granada and Valencia (UGR/UPV, 2020), two of the most prestigious in Spain. I was born in Málaga, the city of Picasso, but then I moved to Sweden in 2022. Currently I’m living in Varberg where I’ve been working and teaching at Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan in Varberg for 2 years with very good feedbacks.
My classes are in English, as my Swedish is not yet very fluent. The advantage of teaching in English is that my classes are open to people from many different countries and cultures, which greatly enriches the learning experience.
Durying my stay in Spain I have been teaching drawing as a freelancer for three years, working with teenagers and participating in various painting and photography projects throughout my career.
All of this has given me the tools to offer these courses at SV, which are increasingly attracting people interested in learning classic drawing all over the world and different cities of Sweden.
